Critical Language Scholarship

The CLS Program is an intensive overseas language and cultural immersion program for American students enrolled at U.S. colleges and universities. Students spend eight to ten weeks abroad studying one of 15 critical languages (Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Swahili, Turkish, and Urdu). The program includes intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences designed to promote rapid language gains. Most languages offered by the CLS Program (9 of 15) do not require applicants to have any experience studying critical languages.

UGA LACSI-Tinker Foundation Graduate Field Research Award Competition Applications Now Open

The University of Georgia Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute (LACSI) is
pleased to announce its 2021 Tinker Foundation-LACSI Graduate Field Research Award
Competition. Travel awards are granted to highly qualified University of Georgia graduate
students from any discipline, interested in conducting preliminary graduate field
research in the Spanish or Portuguese-speaking Latin American and Caribbean region
(excluding Puerto Rico) during 2022. All masters or doctoral students with an interest
in carrying out graduate research in Latin America are encouraged to apply.
