Critical Language Scholarship

Deadline: November 17, 2020

The CLS Program is an intensive overseas language and cultural immersion program for American students enrolled at U.S. colleges and universities. Students spend eight to ten weeks abroad studying one of 15 critical languages (Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Swahili, Turkish, and Urdu). The program includes intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences designed to promote rapid language gains. Most languages offered by the CLS Program (9 of 15) do not require applicants to have any experience studying critical languages.

Cyril Taylor Memorial Scholarship

$3,750- $10,000 (depending on program length)

The Cyril Taylor Memorial Scholarship is awarded to American undergraduates studying abroad in the United Kingdom in programs that best meet their educational objectives. This scholarship is available for programs in summer 2020, fall 2020, and the 2020-2021 academic year.

The Inclusive Ireland Scholarships Program

Deadline: April 1, 2021, 11:59pm PT

Amount: €3000

In collaboration with Diversity Abroad, Education in Ireland is pleased to announce the creation of a new scholarship program: the Inclusive Ireland Scholarships, which will support BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) students to study abroad in Ireland. With a commitment to providing academically rigorous and culturally immersive study abroad experiences for students from all backgrounds and identities, and a strong belief that diversity among visiting students only serves to enrich Irish society and campuses, the program is excited to welcome the inaugural cohort of scholars in Fall 2021.

The application for the Fall 2021 cohort opened this week. The application will close at 11:59 pm PST on April 1, 2021. In order to be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be BIPOC undergraduate students currently enrolled at a college or university in the US who have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

InterExchange Christianson Grant

Deadlines:

  • The grant cycle includes 3 annual deadlines: March 15, July 15, and October 15

Amount: up to $10,000

The Christianson Grant is awarded to young Americans who plan and carry out their own meaningful service projects abroad. Past projects include public health, environmental conservation, poverty alleviation, legal advocacy, and more.

Phi Kappa Phi’s Award Programs

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi’s ongoing commitment to excellence is reflected in its grants and awards programs. $1 million is awarded each biennium to outstanding students, Phi Kappa Phi members and chapters through the Society’s various awards competitions.

The Tanaka-Green Scholarship supports short-term academic study (one semester or one academic year) at colleges and universities in Japan.

This scholarship is awarded to one student and covers the cost of their study abroad experience up to $15,000.

 Watanabe Study Abroad Scholarship

Deadline: no current application cycles due to COVID-19- the next anticipated application cycle will open in January 2022

Amount: $15,000

The Toshizo Watanabe Endowed Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to undergraduates/graduate students for a semester or year-long study abroad program in either the United States or Japan. The scholarship will support up to the full cost of attendance to the study abroad program of the applicant’s choice. The scholarship program grants awards to recipients in amounts determined by financial need and other qualifications.
